My name is Pearce Meisenbach and I have the good fortune of doing what I love for a living: playing and teaching the cello! On this site you will find lots of information about me, from my resumé, to video footage of performances, and more. I also wanted to include something more personal in nature: a brief summary of my philosophy on the role music plays in a person's life.

A child who studies music will learn early math skills, develop coordination and increase their confidence. They will develop collaboration and communication skills, as well as the discipline required to succeed in other areas of life. Music helps a student develop a sense of healthy competition with one's self as new goals are set and met both in daily practice, as well as in long term progress. Studies show that children who study or appreciate music score higher on the SAT, and I am not surprised.

As for adults, well, there are benefits for them also. Many adults enjoy music lessons for the purpose of realizing a lifelong dream, or bringing back musical skills they did not have the opportunity to fully develop when they were younger. Once into their musical studies, they realize that it provides a mode of self-expression that they have felt lacking in their lives, as well as an avenue of connecting with others in a way they have never experienced. Music stimulates the brain and may prevent mental and physical atrophy. It also acts as a form of meditation in a busy world. Parents who take music lessons gain a new perspective on what it means to be a music student.

Those who study music as a hobby are in good company. Albert Einstein and Thomas Jefferson played the violin. Albert Schweitzer and Louis Braille played the organ. Neil Armstrong played the baritone and Charles Dickens the accordion. Is music hard work? Yes. But it also rewarding and fun. I feel honored to be in the position of helping you or your child gain the benefits of music, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Pearce Meisenbach
